A  4″ gravel base was spread on the bottom of the pool to keep the area clean and to provide a good foundation for the concrete shell.  3/8″ rebar was used on the walls, while 1/2″ rebar was used on the floor, all tied 12″ on center.

The concrete shell was shot using 4,000 psi shotcrete, which is a mixture of portland cement, aggregate (rock) and water all mixed together and pumped from a concrete truck’s barrel mixer to a concrete pump.  The shotcrete is pumped through a 2 1/2″ hose that has a compressed air nozzle where the shotcrete is then pneumatically applied.
